PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S owners will get a patch with native 4K and 120Hz support some time after launch. Anyone who already owns Quake on Steam or the Bethesda Launcher will also get the upgrade for free. Singleplayer and multiplayer are present and correct, and include full Cross-Play support. On top of this, there’s also a brand new “Dimension of the Machine” episode created by Wolfenstein and Indiana Jones developers MachineGames. More add-ons will be released over the next few months, starting with Quake 64. In a similar vein to Bethesda’s classic Doom releases in 2019, the package also comes with both expansions and Add-on support. There’s up to 4K resolution and widescreen support, enhanced models, dynamic lighting, depth of field and more. The only exceptions are in capture the flag, where players must be from the same team, and draft mode, where both teams must have Rangers and Scalebearers. In ranked and unranked deathmatch, all players will be divided between matches, regardless of how they acquired Ranger or Scalebearer. The developers have not yet specified whether the Open Beta will be full-fledged, or whether it will be a minimal version of the game. Additionally, it was announced that an Open Beta of the game would be released on Steam on January 31st, 2020. Quake II RTX also promises more content than the original Quake II, including content updates for added mechanics and maps after release.
